Seals are like dogs of the seas, which makes it no mystery why baby seals look like puppies. Baby seals are actually called “pups,” so it wouldn’t be entirely wrong to call them puppies. Pups are born with a relatively low amount of blubber, which keep seals warm. To compensate, pups have thicker hair on their coat, which is collectively called the lanugo. This keeps the pup warm by trapping heat from the sunlight.
